Generally speaking, any dog registered through the UK Kennel Club has a name which is effectively unique, and so there is no danger of confusing it with another dog of the same name.
Other countries use different schemes, which may allow for the same name to be used multiple times for different dogs; they use Registration Numbers to distinguish between the different dogs with the same name. However, these Registration Numbers have not always been provided with the pedigree information available in building this site. So in some cases, it is possible that we have information about, or mention of, more than one dog with the same name, and no access to Reg. Numbers to clear up any such confusion.
This is indicated in two places - the Dam and Sire lines on a dog's web page, and in the (optional) pedigree display.
In the pedigree display, it is important to realize that any uncertainty is always shown relative to the dog whose pedigree is being shown. For instance, there is a dog in our database called It Ch Duca, and we know that his Sire was It Int Rip Ch Al. His sire is also in the database, and although the name Al is not unique, we know that this is the same dog which sired our Duca because we have the correct Reg Number. Therefore, in the pedigree display for Duca the sire's side is clear of uncertainty:

However, if we look at the pedigree for Epithelium Hostaria at Wynsett, we see that her Sire is It Ch Duca, but we do not have any Reg Number recorded, and therefore cannot be sure that this is the correct Duca. Therefore, the pedigree line for Duca will indicate uncertainty; and the subsequent line for It Int Rip Ch Al will also show uncertainty.
