Darlington DSS - 15/09/2023	Lucy Nash (Alfigio)
Thank you to Darlington committee for asking me to judge and too my lovely stewards who did a fabulous job running the ring for me.
The atmosphere was wonderful, we had lots of cheering and clapping, lots of friendly smiling faces and happy Spinoni and their people.
I would like to give a special mention to the young lad showing today who just made me smile so much, he looked so smart, polite and did a great job showing. It is so lovely to see a young enthusiast in our breed and I will keep watching his progress, good luck!
As with all shows, the entry was lower than I have had previously but I found some beautiful and typical examples of the breed.
Presentation was good today and I finished without black hands as I have on my previous appointments!
Today my concerns were a few soft coats, thin skin, no muscle on rear, poor angulation and a couple of very over weight exhibits making them roll on the move.
My BCC/BOB & BV was a veteran bitch of lovely type who I have previously awarded a RCC and stood out with her typical outline and movement and my DCC was a lovely young Brown roan boy who fits the standard and could easily do a days work.

1st		Sh Ch Larlila Morello	Blythe	What a pleasure to start my days judging with this beautiful 7yr old B/R boy, from nose to tail he oozes quality. I cannot say anything about this boy that hasn’t been said before! Excellent long lean head with correct divergence, soft melting expression and correct shaped eye and colour. His coat is of correct texture and colour with a thick skin, this is enhanced by his beautiful grooming. He has a short strong neck that leads into his well-placed shoulders. Deep chest and belly line and an overall square outline. A strong front and rear both well angulated helps this boy power around the ring covering the ground well, holding his topline to give a typical outline.

1st		Affilato You Can Bank On It	Clark & Sharp	W/O boy with a good head and expression, just 1 year old and beginning to mature nicely. He excels in size and shape giving him a good outline, short neck leading to well laid shoulders, good strong front which is well angulated allowing good reach on the move. Well-presented harsh coat. Moved well covering the ground with his powerful trot. Will watch his progress with interest.

1st		Lucoru Blow a Fuse at Cloudnine	Fordham	Beautiful young boy who won this class due to his exquisite head, the kindest eye and almost humanlike expression, large spongy nose, divergent head planes and a pronounced occiput, he is well proportioned throughout with good angulation fore and aft, harsh coat and thick skin. His under belly needs to drop to complete the picture; he still has a lot of maturing to do but has plenty of time to come into his own. Powerful and steady trot. Another I will watch with interest.
2nd		Gradevole Buzzolai of Blymara	Blythe	B/R of lovely type and a fantastic character. Masculine head without coarseness, roof like skull and pronounced occiput, dark eyes giving that typical spinoni expression, stood 4 square with a deep body. Correct topline with gently sloping croup and good tail set. Moved soundly with a relaxed trot.

1st		Gradevole Strufolli	Robinson	Absolutely stunning B/R of nearly 3 years old, beautiful head and eye giving a typical melting expression, divergent head planes and pronounced occiput and medial furrow. Short strong neck, correct topline, gently sloping croup with well set tail. Super strong bone and well shaped feet, Good angulation fore and aft. This boy is square and robust, when on the move he comes into his own with his great reach and drive allowing him to show his powerful fast trot. He is really well muscled and in hard condition. His coat and skin has to be the best of the day, close fitting jacket with the harshest coat. Today he had that extra little bit of sparkle for me and I just kept coming back to him and was pleased to award him the DCC.
2nd		Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail (JW)	Duncan	Well made orange roan who gives a lovely mature outline, soulful head and expression, would prefer a little more refined scull. Deep chest, good forechest and spring of rib. Coat and skin of good texture. Well off for bone with big tight feet. Excellent ground covering movement with topline and tail held correctly.

1st		Sh Ch Bessalone Peaky Blinders	Knowles & Glen	Beautiful mature 4yr old W/O boy soulful eyes, large spongy nose, strong arched neck leading in to well laid back shoulders, straight front with pronounced sternum, deep chest and good spring of rib, break at the vertebrae 11th giving a typical topline which was held on the move, well angulated fore and aft, gently sloping croup with a correct tailset. He has good movement and I Loved him but just feel he did not put his all in on the move today.
2nd		Sh Ch Testaverde Back For Good at Paradeco	Thompson	Stunning B/R who I have previously awarded a RCC and my comments still apply, smaller in stature than 1 and different type but still fits the breed standard closely. Kindest of expressions with good head planes and ear set, coat and skin of good texture. Since I judged him last he has matured as I would have expected and shows a great outline when standing. His movement is true coming and going, using his power when moving around the ring.

1st		Sh Ch Teazledown Aphrodite	Bruce	This beautiful 7yr old filled my eye as soon as she came in the ring, I have previously judged her 4 years ago and awarded her the RCC. Today was this girls day, Typical soft melting expression with dark soulful eyes solid, strong neck and shoulders, robust throughout but still feminine, well-made front and rear enabling her powerful ground covering trot. Plenty of bone and lovely tight feet. Coat of good texture and presented too perfection. So pleased to award her the BCC, BOB and BV. In both groups, she represented the breed well. I believe she has not been shown for a while but didn’t put a foot wrong.
2nd		Diggmere Strawberry Heart at Larhuly	Duncan	B/R of good type, kind eye and expression, strong neck and well laid shoulders, correct topline with gentle rise and fall to tail set. Presented and handled well. Would like her to put a bit more effort in on the move.

Minor Puppy Bitch	.	Dog (4 entries, 0 absent)	Owner	Critique Well what can I say about this class…It was just a joy to be in the ring with these lovely babies and their handlers. A busy main road nearby, a loud tannoy and a strange lady going over them but they all took it in their stride and hopefully had a good experience. All 4 had great personalities and show promise for the future. A couple of them have softer coats but keep stripping them and it will get there and become easier to manage.
1st		Lajatico Bobini	Wain	8 month old B/R girl of correct monks habit colour, lovely shape and size all through. Good head and expression showing the correct roof like skull, pronounced occiput and earset. Well boned with nice tight feet, Harsh coat and thick skin, this girl was presented in tip top condition and even though she made her handler work when she gets it together she has such sound positive movement. Pleased to award her BP, she went well in the puppy group as she settled into this ‘new showing thing’.
2nd		Montecani Twist By the River	Cresswell	7 month old B/R as with 1st she is the correct shade brown, her coat and skin are thick, at the moment her coat is a little soft, but as its stripped it will become course. Pretty head, which is balanced, good eye colour giving her a melting expression. Stands square, has good angulation in her front and rear, moved well, and was a very happy girl.

1st		Diggmere Cortona Sofia del Riccini	Whittingham, Bexon & Wright	Very pretty 16 month old W/O who still has lots of maturing to do, she has everything in place for the makings of a fabulous bitch she just needs to fill her frame. Long lean roof like head with good divergence, dark eyes and soulful expression, Chest and body need to deepen. Correct topline and with slight rise to rump and slight fall to correctly set tail, which she can fly on the move and this can detract from her overall picture. She has lovely powerful movement but could do with going a tad slower to show how well made she is.

1st		Ilsolo River Island	Bovio	W/O of lovely size and shape, she is so balanced, her head is of correct proportions with correct divergence, dark eye which give a beautiful expression, square and robust in body deep chest and well sprung ribs. Coat of good texture, heavy bone and feet. Front and rear angulation are good which made her move out well with good footfall. Considered for top honors.
2nd		Annilann Temptress del Michiamo (JW)	Anderson & Mayne	Another beautiful W/O of different type to my first place, very feminine and classy but still robust, Typical head and expression with a kind eye. Correct front with pronounced forechest, good front and moderate rear angulation, free and easy, relaxed trot holding correct topline but can tend to hold her tail a little high on the move.

1st		Inostricani Athena	Boyes-Weston	Smaller balanced B/R with good substance and maturity. Roof shaped skull with kind eye and gentle expression. Medium length slightly arched neck and well set shoulders. Pronounced sternum, deep chest with good spring of rib. Thick skin and course coat. Well muscled rear with decent angulation which helped her moved around the ring with a powerful trot. Really loved this girl but she could do with a bit more ’oomph’, another in the running for top honours.

She has a long lean head with pronounce occiput, beautiful expression with nicely set ears. She is just starting to mature and fill her frame, deep chest with minimal tuck up, strong neck, correct topline and well-made front and rear, Effortless ground covering movement.

1st		Sh Ch Prottino del Vera by Dewdhala	Wagh	Mature W/O who stood out as my class winner from the moment she entered the ring. I judged her previously 4 years ago and she has matured as I imagined. She is a solid cobby workman like bitch who is from the top draw, she has a deep chest and belly line with great spring of rib, heavy bone and compact feet, great thick jacket prepared to perfection. On the move she really shows the typical fast pounding trot of the breed and I’m sure she could easily do a day’s work. I was pleased to award her the RCC and was just piped to the post by the lovely veteran bitch winner.
2nd		Inostricani Fianna	James	Lovely well balanced W/O bitch, soulful expression with a deep ocre eye, head of good proportions with correct divergence. Short strong neck leading into well laid back shoulders, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs, Good angulation fore and aft. Rear quarters are well muscled with decent angulation which helped her moved around the ring with a powerful trot.
